Pregame media frenzy as Hanley Ramirez returns to Miami as a Dodger. |
It was the Dodgers debut at Marlins Park, facing them as the “Miami” Marlins for the first time. Clayton Kershaw (10-6) labored and clearly didn’t have his best stuff, but it was good enough for his 10th win of the year as the Dodger bullpen of Wright, Choate, Belisario and Jansen maintained the lead for the victory.
Juan Rivera hit a clutch homer that gave the Dodgers the lead in the 6th inning. It was a 2-run shot off of Mark Buehrle and a lead the Dodgers would never relinquish.
Certainly the return home rejuvenated Hanley Ramirez, who was able to reconnect with his wife and children for the first time since the July 26th trade that sent Nathan Eovaldi and Scott McGough to Miami in exchange for him and Randy Choate. Hanley’s appearance on the Dodger post game show with his children was a memorable one as it was obvious through his infectious smile that he was happy to be home with the kids.
It was a reminder to all of us that these guys have families and that the rigors of a major league season and life as a baseball player can be difficult at times. Hopefully Ramirez is able to put down some L.A. roots with his family soon. A contented ballplayer will produce even better. Enjoy your family Hanley, you've got beautiful children.
